I think I went a bit crazy with the powdered sugar.
I am running out of places in my house (with appropriate light) to take pictures of the kids. Today I moved to the piano.

I had an inspiring conversation with some friends today about ornaments. I so want to have meaningful ornaments on our tree, but it's hard for me to know where to start. I bought a few after we got married at some after-Christmas sales, but even those, I'm not too attached to. We have a few that G-Mommie (Chris' mom) made for us right before she died. I am so grateful she made them so our kiddos can have them one day. It has been nearly 5 years, and I still can't pull them out without tearing up. Graham does too, when he talks about her. He was almost 4 when she passed away, and still has vivid memories of her. He specifically wanted to hang this (below) one. A special thanks to the Wilson family for making this memory for us. I'd love to have more memory ornaments like this and would love to hear your thoughts. A friend today says she picks a theme for each of their kids and gives them an ornament of that theme every year on the first day of Advent. She says her kids love it. What are YOUR ideas?

My mom started a collection for us when I was in middle school. She picks the ornaments out and it is one of our presents each Christmas. The 3 years I lived in Texas were sad because I didn't get to hang my ornaments on a tree. And the first year I had my own tree, my mom gave me all my ornaments, so that I didn't have a tree with just mass bought unoriginal balls. I have to say, I think I love this tradition much more than my brother, so I don't know if it's a boy/girl thing or not.
We make ornaments a lot but we also enjoy buying meaningful ones, like the ones sold at the 10,000Villages craft fairs (with the proceeds going to the makers of the crafts in underdeveloped countries) or even local artisans (like one of my favorites with an orca whale painted on glass that will forever remind me of the ocean, even if we move away). This year I am making these with my kids. I love that I'll be able to hold them in my hand and see how little their hands were, years down the road.

My mom made felt and sequin ornaments in the 70's and I have been collecting vintage set on eBay to make more myself. I plan to make them fro my children to take with them when they are older too.
